Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, I haven't come across it.
I spend *so* much time tabbing past Game Parlor topics, which I have no interest in, while I'm trying to find real discussion topics. I only bring this up because there are so very many of them! This is very time consuming and annoying, frankly, and prevents me from visiting the site and the boards as often as I would if I did not have to wade through Game Parlor silliness.
So my suggestion is that all Game Parlor topics be put together in their own area, separate from discussion threads, if possible. Or maybe there could be some system of check boxes to help sort topics when checking for newest posts?
Thanks for considering.
What do others think?
i'm mixed on this.
your point about all the game topics is perfictly valid. i for one am sick of game topics being bought to the top, while people that arn't interested in the games are trying to start good and interesting topics.
as for moving the games to there own section, i guess they kind of are in there own section really, as they have there own board. as much as many of us may not like it, people have just as much right to post to the game board as they do let's talk or the joke board.
as for the check boxes, sure we could have boxes with the boards, and you check the ones you want to read, so that when you look at new topics only those show up. i for 1 am in favour of this, mainly because you can filter out all the " rubbish" so to speak. what 1 person may find rubbish, someone else may get a lot of enjoyment from.
again though, something like that would take time to implament, and i'd wait for a staff view on this.
This board filtering has been brought up many times. I think the majority of us agree that it's a good idea because everyone has different interests in what they want to see.
agreed with poaster above
If not board filtering, I th ink moving this particular category to the games section of the site would be best. I agree, as do a few others on the staff, but unfortunatley, nothing will probably be done.
I agree that the best thing would be to move the Game Parlor Board to the Games section. It would make more sense being in that section rather than at the Message Board section, and it would actually make it more convenient and easier for both the people mainly interested in playing the games on that Board as they would just go to the Games section and just have the different game titles to go thru, and for the people who just want to find and post to non-game discussions since they would no longer have to tab thru game titles.
I totally agree with this, but as usual nothing will be done about it since we never see our admins on this site.
I personally like the Board Filtering idea much better than the Game ParlorintheGames Menu. Not only does it allow you tofilter outthe Game Parlor ifyou don't want it, but it allows you to filter out other boards. But, it seems our admins are M I A.
I've been an advicate for the board filtering idea for yonks. I don't think it's necessary to move the game parlor though - if we had board filtering, it wouldn't be necessary.
i favor the both ideas. i think the game parler should seriously moved to it's own stand alone forum, or moved to the game session of the site. its anoying to see members coming to post on the board for the seek of having their number of post up, and it is anoying to see whenever you enter the board's session, the top topics that domenate the whole 'latest post' will be game parler, from the same few user again and again.
but as we already go thru these matter, nothing will be change unless we have a team of admin, instead of rely on Chris to do everything and anything for the site in terms of scripting etc etc
I agree that either board filtering or moving game parlor to the games section would be a good idea. But as others have pointed out, unfortunately making suggestions seems to be pointless these days with admins too busy to read them and take the time to implement any of them. In fact, while we're making suggestions, why not suggest getting rid of the suggestions board since it is useless now.
LOL, agreed with previous. *grin*
Agree 100% with post 11.
I agree with post 11 as well, and am more in favor of board filtering than moving the game parlor board altogether. That just seems like more of a hassle than filtering would be.
Make me another agreeing with becky.
I would like to see filtering available. As well as the game parlour, I don't read anything from the joke board either (these are the two boards that seem to be the most active). There could be a checkbox system under account settings that would allow you to filter the boards.
As for moving the game parlour, I think it would be okay to leave it in the main boards as long as the filtering feature is there.
Oh and as for the admins thing, I would suggest locking the suggestions board. But I guess this requires an admin so''' oh well!
Lmao, Becky. I understand. As Scott says, pretty much all the CL's agree that something needs to be done about game parlor, and we've suggested it on list many times, but, like you, we've little hope of anything being done about it.
I think they should filter every catagory not just games. I understand we play them a lot, but the games should not be the only topic filtered. Just my opinion
I'd be happy if anything at all was done. Filtering or just having the category moved altogether would be nice. I mean, I'd love to have board filtering, but I would think moving the board to the games section would be a lot less work.
I also agree. Either a filder or the game topicks to be moved i will be happy with either suggestion.
Some have mentioned locking or deleting the suggestions board because nothing is done with it. No, you don't need an admin for that, any of us CL's could do it.... *Evil grin*
it might be more benifitial to delete the game parler than delete the suggestion board. over all, we know there are people do suggest things that perhaps useful for future refference, but the game parler, just, useless.
I disagree. It's not necessary to delete or lock either board for one simple reason - people still post to them. Even if the suggestions aren't looked at by the admins, people continue to add or reply to them - look what I'm doing right now for example. As for the game parlor, most of us don't enjoy scrolling down past all those games, and it may only be used by a small number of people, but still - they continue to use it, and something that's being used shouldn't need to be deleted.
No, I'm not going to do it, you guys. Then I would really risk annoying the heck out of Chris, and I'd rather not do that. I just couldn't resist saying it, and thinking it, to make a satirical point that this board does, in fact, not get used the way it should by those with the power to act. .
I don't think locking the game parlor board is fair to those who have nothing else to do than create and play those games. I have even participated in a few of them but got bored after awhile. However, they have the right to play them. So I don't agree that the game parlor board should be removed or locked. I just wish we could filter and select the boards we want to see when we check out topics with new posts. Either that or move game parlor to where the anagram and other games are instead of leaving them with the message boards.
Here's another idea to throw in here: We could make it so that topics from the game parlour only show up on the latest topics page once when they are first created. Then when a reply is posted within a game parlour topic, it will not cause the topic to jump to the top of the latest topics listing. The topic could still be bumped to the top of the game parlour board itself though.
Just a suggestion.
PS. I agree with becky in post 25 about locking the game parlour board.
No no guys, I wasn't talking about locking the Game Parlor board. I was joking about locking the suggestions board, since even the good ones that get posted here do not get implemented.
Alicia, I think someone else did suggest locking the game parlor board. I'm too lazy to scroll back and see who it was, but I know that's not what you were suggesting.
Now I'm going to slap myself or go bang my head against a wall for continuing to post to any of these topics under the ZoneBBS suggestions since I know the admins are not reading them and none of them, even the really good ones, will be implemented.
why are y'all picking on the games? I have come here and have seen tuns of jokes as well as other topic. I believe each topic should have its own link so for example if you wanted to play board games you enter that link or garage sale items you enter on that link you get to pick the topic you want to view. Leave us game players alone!!! We like to play them and create them!!!
hehehe, i'm the one that suggesting to lock the game parler board as a joke to Alicia's idea of locking the suggestion board. just meant to be a joke, don't be so serious one and all. i agree fully on moving the entire game parler away to some whare else. it could be stand alone thing on this site, or simply put it under the games heading.
ones again, the locking game parler board, just a joke. lol
Actually, I like the filtering idea better because in this way no one group of people are picked on...And, I can think of one or two other boards I don't typically read from, however, those aren't as active...
I'm with all of you on this. Something really should be done, whether it's moving the board or adding filters. I've been hoping something like this would happen for ages now. I have no problems with gamers. I even join in sometimes. But to constantly see the same links with hundreds sometimes two or three thousand posts is a bit ridiculous. As many have pointed out, it makes it harder to get to other posts. But in all fairness, though it is a bit annoying, we can skip unwanted posts by choosing to look at various categories from the combo box before the boards links.
Brian33, you're taking this too personally. You can play the games all you want. What we are saying is that we would like to be able to filter out any board categories we don't want to see on a regular basis. For me, game parlor is just one. I would still check it out once in awhile just to see if any new and interesting games have been started, but I don't want to see 30 out of 50 topics on the first page of topics with new posts being from that one category.
